Are You Ready for Election Day?
On November 4, 2008, US citizens will head to the voting booths to make crucial decisions that will affect the future of our country and the planet. Not only are we facing a critical and historic presidential election, but let's not forget that we have important choices to make on state and local levels as well. Perhaps we will never be able to fully decipher the rhetoric of politicians, see beyond the campaign spin, or weed through the barrage of information we encounter in the media; but we can make a concerted effort to do our own research, learn about candidates' records, and cast responsible votes.
In this election, more than ever before, technology has played a prominent role. The candidates have launched web-based and mobile efforts to engage, educate, and persuade the public; and concerned citizens and organizations have also harnessed the power of technology to critique the candidates, inform constituencies, and advocate issues. Find more information about technology's increasing role in politics, democracy, and advocacy here.
ifPeople, as a company, doesn't get a vote; but in line with our values, we're supporting compassionate foreign policy, responsibility for our climate, and fair trade and economic policies in this election. There is still time to get informed!
Below, are two progressive voter guides that will help you determine where the candidates stand on issues that are important to you. We suggest that you use them to supplement other research.
