When it comes to open source, the Web is an area Free Software technologies have excelled. Open Source Content Management Systems (or CMSs) now offer some of the best options out of any technology to run your web site -- but not all open source CMSs are created equally. The judges have spoken and the votes are in.

We are pleased to announce that Plone is the winner of this year's Packt Publishing 2008 Best Other Open Source CMS Award.  Each content management system was evaluated based on performance, usability, accessibility, ease of configuration and customization, scalability and security. 

Beating out dotCMS, DotNetNuke, and a wide range of other non-PHP competitors, Plone's extensible platform, extensive documentation, and community of committed developers impressed the committee and readers in the know about content management systems; and its ease of use set it apart from the competition.

Of special note to to the future of Plone, one judge stated, "with Google's App Engine offering Python support, I felt that it is possible to very quickly have a cloud-based Plone implementation in place, and that could really spur its adoption."  Plone has placed as a finalist since the award's inception and continues to hold steady.
